Sneak peek into our project

Image
Last week our group was able to get our storyboard together. I think storyboarding might be the hardest thing to do together. We had plenty of ideas about what to do with our film. But it was so hard to figure out what we were going to do for the shots. I together as a group sitting down and drawing out what we wanted to do in a couple of shots was a fantastic idea. It really allowed us to focus on what we wanted to do. This allowed for this week to focus on filming.  Link To Why Storyboarding is Important This week was getting down to business with our fascination project for our group. Our group project is about a feminist hybrid/ anime movie. I am playing the bad guy focused on selling fake books about feminism to the world. Nobody knows that I am the bad guy. I head to North Central College one day to give a speech about how everyone should buy the book. I have a secret alter ego who is really in control of me. During this time, North Central College has heroes on campus who ar...

Edward Scissorhands

Image
This weekend I watched the movie  Edward Scissorhands  a classic 1990s movie. The main character Edward is an outcast (Johny Depp) who lives by himself in a castle on a hill. Edward was created in a laboratory within the castle by a scientist. The scientist died before he was able to complete Edwards's hands. So he replaced them with scissors. One day Peg, another character in the movie, was snooping around the castle and found Edward by himself. She ends up bringing him home to meet her parents. The parents take him in, and everyone around town is very skeptical of the person.  One scene of the movie I remember growing up watching was the part where Edward is carving a massive ice block and making an angle for Peg. I thought the scene was impactful because it allowed Edward to show his true self versus what other people around him see. The complicated relationship between Peg and Edward shows how being different is not all that bad. The clip above shows how Peg an...

Pan's labyrinth

This week in film class we decided to watch the movie Pan's Labyrinth. I personally thought the movie we watched was really interesting. The director for sure had a deeper meaning for what ends up happening throughout the movie. Personally for me watching the movie I thought that every time the Ofelia would go and talk to the other fairy tale monster I thought it was a way to escape the realism of the world around her. This to me gives a specific idea of how a person might go through drastic trauma. I feel like throughout the movie I saw watching that every time Ofelia would see the fairy tale monster or even to travel to other worlds something terrible would end up happening in the real world.  An example of this would be the first couple of minutes of the movie. I see that Ofelia and her mom were driving together in her car to meet her new father. During this time I saw that Ofelia was mostly focused on her books versus what was going on with her mother. Later on in...

Werewolf by Night

Image
The movie I watched this weekend was a  Marvel  Movie. The title of the film was called  Werewolf by Night . The director Michael Giacchino decided to take the movie in a different direction from most films we watch today. Michael Giacchino filmed his movie in black and white. His decision to make the movie black and white led to a creepy aesthetic of the movie overall. It was almost like an old-time horror movie from universal but filmed by today's standards.  One good example from the film I thought used the contrast of black and white was the clip above. It shows the Werewolf attacking the guards that were supposed to protect the boss. I thought the director did a good shoot because it showed the door slowly closing and how the light was fleeing away in the background while the Werewolf was attacking. Showed how there was no escape in sight. It eventually ends up going completely dark with no light at all within the shoot. I thought this shot was amazing to...

Hocus Pocus 2

Image
This weekend was the start of the new month of October. I thought I would watch the new  Hocus Pocus  movie that just came out. The original  Hocus Pocus  was a part of my childhood growing up. I would come home from school and turn on the Disney Channel to see what movies they were showing. I always watched the original Hocus Pocus whenever it came on Disney Channel. So I thought I would give the second movie a chance. I wanted to see how  Hocus Pocus 2  was different compared to the first one.  When I was watching  Hocus Pocus 2 , one detail kept coming to me while watching the movie. The spell book the Sanderson sister use within the film felt more animated than the first one.  (Spoilers ahead if you have not seen the movie).  But at one point in  Hocus Pocus 2 , the spell book closes itself on the Sanderson sister, stopping them from using a spell. The spell that the spell book stops the Sanderson sister from using could ...
