Werewolf by Night

The movie I watched this weekend was a Marvel Movie. The title of the film was called Werewolf by Night. The director Michael Giacchino decided to take the movie in a different direction from most films we watch today. Michael Giacchino filmed his movie in black and white. His decision to make the movie black and white led to a creepy aesthetic of the movie overall. It was almost like an old-time horror movie from universal but filmed by today's standards.

One good example from the film I thought used the contrast of black and white was the clip above. It shows the Werewolf attacking the guards that were supposed to protect the boss. I thought the director did a good shoot because it showed the door slowly closing and how the light was fleeing away in the background while the Werewolf was attacking. Showed how there was no escape in sight. It eventually ends up going completely dark with no light at all within the shoot. I thought this shot was amazing to watch for the first time. Especially with the film being in black and white, it makes the shoot so much better.

Overall this film might be only 48 minutes long. But the director was able to make compelling shots for the story he was trying to tell. I thought the usage of the black and white film allowed the audience to interpret the movie more.
