Edward Scissorhands

This weekend I watched the movie Edward Scissorhands a classic 1990s movie. The main character Edward is an outcast (Johny Depp) who lives by himself in a castle on a hill. Edward was created in a laboratory within the castle by a scientist. The scientist died before he was able to complete Edwards's hands. So he replaced them with scissors. One day Peg, another character in the movie, was snooping around the castle and found Edward by himself. She ends up bringing him home to meet her parents. The parents take him in, and everyone around town is very skeptical of the person.

One scene of the movie I remember growing up watching was the part where Edward is carving a massive ice block and making an angle for Peg. I thought the scene was impactful because it allowed Edward to show his true self versus what other people around him see. The complicated relationship between Peg and Edward shows how being different is not all that bad. The clip above shows how Peg and Edward first meet and how their relationship flourishes throughout the film. The director showed you don't have to be like the rest to have other people notice you. Overall this movie is very underappreciated for the complex ideas Tim Burton puts within his films. What Tim Burtons does with his movies is a lot different from what most other directors do.
