Hocus Pocus 2

This weekend was the start of the new month of October. I thought I would watch the new Hocus Pocus movie that just came out. The original Hocus Pocus was a part of my childhood growing up. I would come home from school and turn on the Disney Channel to see what movies they were showing. I always watched the original Hocus Pocus whenever it came on Disney Channel. So I thought I would give the second movie a chance. I wanted to see how Hocus Pocus 2 was different compared to the first one.

When I was watching Hocus Pocus 2, one detail kept coming to me while watching the movie. The spell book the Sanderson sister use within the film felt more animated than the first one. (Spoilers ahead if you have not seen the movie). But at one point in Hocus Pocus 2, the spell book closes itself on the Sanderson sister, stopping them from using a spell. The spell that the spell book stops the Sanderson sister from using could make them all-powerful. I think it allows the audience watching the movie to realize that the spellbook is an actual character versus just something in the background. At the end of Hocus Pocus 2, we see another shot that makes the spellbook look human. (Spoilers again sorry). But the spellbook opens for our protagonist to help the Sanderson sisters one last time to be back together again. Spoiler (The all-powerful spell takes something you hold close to and gives you the power). The protagonist sends the final witch back to her sisters since that's all she truly wanted was to be alive and protect her sisters. As the audience, we can see the spellbook ends up shedding a few tears before the protagonist sends off the final Sanderson sister back to her other sisters.

Overall this movie has a deeper plot to understand than that the Sanderson sister has arisen from the grave. The spellbook within the story ends up being a more important character than expected. I thought this was interesting to look into due to the fact that within the original Hocus Pocus, the spellbook does not show much emotion versus in Hocus Pocus 2

  1. HUH. I did not see this coming! I saw HP AGES ago ... and I don't remember it much, to be honest. I have heard about the "2." I'm not always a fan of sequels, but maybe? ...

What did you make of Get Out? I look forward to hearing your thoughts.
