Bullet Train

Image
I rewatched the movie called  Bullet Train;  the director is David Leitch. I saw this movie during Covid; this week in the class, we focused on the experiences of seeing a movie in person versus being alone. So I rewatched this movie alone; I can tell you it was a different experience. The driving point of the film is about trying to steal a suitcase full of money. Each character within the film has different motives; however, they are all getting played by a mastermind. One of the characters in the movie is named Lady Bug, played by the actor Brad Pitt. Throughout the movie, we see why Brad Pitt is Lady Bug due to his luckiness throughout the film. Brad Pitt character in the movie, has an existential crisis about whether or not he is lucky or has horrible luck. Throughout the film, we meet other characters who come from all different walks of life. However, they all encountered each other prior to the job on the bullet train. The early encounters eventually play a role...

The Social Dilemma

Image
This week we focused on watching the documentary  The Social Dilemma.  The documentary focuses on how social media affects the world and the people who live in it. The director's main arguments for the film focused on how social media can affect adults, children, and countries. Watching this documentary and hearing what the engineers were saying about making social media platforms made me disgusted with what they could do. I thought the engineers of the social media platforms were somewhat opposed to what they were saying. It is almost like they could get in trouble with what they were talking about in the documentary.   Throughout the film, the director added cuts back n forth between a family and the interviewers. I thought the director did this intentionally to show how social media could impact a family. Especially throughout the film, we see the son constantly looking at his phone. I witnessed that throughout the film, he was getting more depressed every ...

Wednesday

Image
This long week I watched a tv series called  Wednesday.  The director of these episodes was Tim Burton. Tim Burton has created a lot of movies that were a part of my childhood, and I knew the tv series was going to be about Addams Family. In watching the tv series, some of the scenes that I thought was interesting was the direction of Wednesday Addam. At the beginning of the tv series, she was cold and not very open to anyone at her new school. But, over time, you can see throughout the tv series she was opening up toward the other characters. One thing I noticed from the show was that there was no halt in the action. Each episode of the series builds upon the last episode.  One scene from the tv series that I thought was cool to watch Wednesday Addams is playing her cello on top of the roof. This scene happens in the first episode of the series. I loved how she was not playing a contemporary piece but a rock song. It shows how the Addams Family is not your typical...

The Truman Show

Image
This weekend I watched the movie  The Truman Show . The movie is about what if we filmed a person 24/7 since birth. I watched it once when I was in like 7th grade because I want to say we were learning about narratives. But I recently rewatched it since it's been a long time, and I noticed a lot more than before. I think the director of the moving did an amazing job of framing the camera to focus on the main character Truman played by Jim Carrey. Jim Carrey, in almost every film, plays the goofball kind of guy. This film is a goofball movie at certain points within the film. But Once it gets serious, Jim Carrey protays emotions very well.   One of the examples I thought the director of the movie did a clear job of portraying was the idea that there are product placements throughout the movie. A couple of examples are shown above within the clip. I kept looking for them throughout the film. It kept my attention longer just trying to find everything. With this movie,...

All Quiet on the Western Front

Image
This week I watched the movie  All Quiet on the Western Front . The film is from a book that tries to retell what happened during World War One through German soldiers. The movie was originally in German but they translated it to English. Personally I watched the movie in German with Subtitles. I feel like movies that are usually dub try to make the Germans sound more angry in their speech versus what they truly sound like speaking their native language. I thought that the director Edward Berger did a good job portraying the ending of World War One. I thought the director showed the battles very accurately. As a history major, it makes me upset when movies do not depict historical events correctly. But from watching the movie, I thought the director did a fantastic job portraying what was happening during the events of the film.  This Part of the movie is very graphic so be warned  This movie is very graphic but depicts true events that happened. One of the scenes that gr...

Wendell and Wild Reaction

Image
When I first started to watch the new movie  Wendell and Wild . I thought the film was going to be different from most animations. I was correct about the film. The film covers more deep concepts for an average kids' movie. Henry Selick, the director of the film, has directed many other animated films such as  Nightmare Before Christmas  and  Coraline.  These two movies are my favorite personally to watch around Halloween and Christmas. The motive of the movie was very straightforward. When watching the movie for the first time, I thought it was different from Selick's other films. For example, Selick's film had a deeper tone than what was on the screen. It was nice to see Jordan Peele and Keegan-Micheal Key come back and play characters in the film. I thought they did a wonderful job playing the tricky demons throughout the film. They were playing off of each other's emotions when making the film. You can tell their personalities were coming out through ...

Sneak peek into our project

Image
Last week our group was able to get our storyboard together. I think storyboarding might be the hardest thing to do together. We had plenty of ideas about what to do with our film. But it was so hard to figure out what we were going to do for the shots. I together as a group sitting down and drawing out what we wanted to do in a couple of shots was a fantastic idea. It really allowed us to focus on what we wanted to do. This allowed for this week to focus on filming.  Link To Why Storyboarding is Important This week was getting down to business with our fascination project for our group. Our group project is about a feminist hybrid/ anime movie. I am playing the bad guy focused on selling fake books about feminism to the world. Nobody knows that I am the bad guy. I head to North Central College one day to give a speech about how everyone should buy the book. I have a secret alter ego who is really in control of me. During this time, North Central College has heroes on campus who ar...
