All Quiet on the Western Front

This week I watched the movie All Quiet on the Western Front. The film is from a book that tries to retell what happened during World War One through German soldiers. The movie was originally in German but they translated it to English. Personally I watched the movie in German with Subtitles. I feel like movies that are usually dub try to make the Germans sound more angry in their speech versus what they truly sound like speaking their native language. I thought that the director Edward Berger did a good job portraying the ending of World War One. I thought the director showed the battles very accurately. As a history major, it makes me upset when movies do not depict historical events correctly. But from watching the movie, I thought the director did a fantastic job portraying what was happening during the events of the film.

This Part of the movie is very graphic so be warned

This movie is very graphic but depicts true events that happened. One of the scenes that grabbed my attention was when the tanks were coming towards them in the trench lines. To me, the film shows the advancement of technology, especially towards the end of World War One. I thought the director showed how the modern age of technology clashes with nonmodern ways of fighting the war. The main character in the film has about five friends that make him sign up to go to war. Throughout the film, he loses all of his friends until he is the last one. To me, the film shows a lot of heartbreak and the messiness of war. The director of the film portrays a very straightforward telling of the German soldier's life during World War One.
