Understanding the Short Film "Snowy"

    When looking into the short film Snowy, one might think it's a cute story about how a person takes care of an important animal. But there is more to it from what I watched. The beginning of the film starts with a person reading tarot cards. At first, we do not understand who the tarot reading is for until we first meet Snowy the turtle. As an audience, we finally see who the tarot reading is for Snowy the turtle. This allows the audience to understand that Snowy the turtle might not be great for him. From that point forward, the movie paints Snowy the turtle's life as very mundane. With nobody carrying for him. 

To get this point across that nobody really cares for Snowy the turtle; the director set's up a shot showing the difference between what the people are experiencing and what Snowy is experiencing. The video clip shows Snowy's caretakers over him on a different; floor of the house, eating a nice warm dinner with their whole family. While Snowy the turtle is sitting in a dimly lit room with nobody checking in on him. It's a very powerful shot to show how important the turtle is to the family. It allows the viewers of this clip to understand that nobody at this point in the film is taking care of him as well as they should be. But Snowy's story is not all sad. 

Closer to the end of the short film. The caretakers of Snowy the turtle end up taking advice from the person who engages with turtles for her studies. She point's out that Snowy needs a new way of life because it would allow Snowy to feel better. The caretakers of Snowy the turtle end up getting Snowy a new cage. The caretakers also allow Snowy to walk outside of the cage he's known for all his life. One could see from the second clip that Snowy the turtle ends up doing a lot better. This new video clip shows that Snowy is feeling better and is living a better life. I think the point of this film allows for reason to make sure you are taking care of everyone. At the beginning of the short film, Snowy was not in the best of health and living standards. Sometimes even if you are a turtle you need to go reach for help to understand what they need to do.

  The movie I watched this weekend was a  Marvel  Movie. The title of the film was called  Werewolf by Night . The director Michael Giacchino decided to take the movie in a different direction from most films we watch today. Michael Giacchino filmed his movie in black and white. His decision to make the movie black and white led to a creepy aesthetic of the movie overall. It was almost like an old-time horror movie from universal but filmed by today's standards.  One good example from the film I thought used the contrast of black and white was the clip above. It shows the Werewolf attacking the guards that were supposed to protect the boss. I thought the director did a good shoot because it showed the door slowly closing and how the light was fleeing away in the background while the Werewolf was attacking. Bullet Train

  I rewatched the movie called  Bullet Train;  the director is David Leitch. I saw this movie during Covid; this week in the class, we focused on the experiences of seeing a movie in person versus being alone. So I rewatched this movie alone; I can tell you it was a different experience. The driving point of the film is about trying to steal a suitcase full of money. Each character within the film has different motives; however, they are all getting played by a mastermind. One of the characters in the movie is named Lady Bug, played by the actor Brad Pitt. Throughout the movie, we see why Brad Pitt is Lady Bug due to his luckiness throughout the film. Brad Pitt character in the movie, has an existential crisis about whether or not he is lucky or has horrible luck. Throughout the film, we meet other characters who come from all different walks of life. However, they all encountered each other prior to the job on the bullet train. Pan's labyrinth

    This week in film class we decided to watch the movie Pan's Labyrinth. I personally thought the movie we watched was really interesting. The director for sure had a deeper meaning for what ends up happening throughout the movie. Personally for me watching the movie I thought that every time the Ofelia would go and talk to the other fairy tale monster I thought it was a way to escape the realism of the world around her. This to me gives a specific idea of how a person might go through drastic trauma. I feel like throughout the movie I saw watching that every time Ofelia would see the fairy tale monster or even to travel to other worlds something terrible would end up happening in the real world.  An example of this would be the first couple of minutes of the movie.
