The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou
This week we watched the movie The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou. The director used a lot of good ways of producing the film. The way the director tried to use the camera to create a narrative allowed the audience to understand what the director was heading in the movie. I thought a couple of the shots from the film explained the direction that the director wanted to understand. The camera shot that came to mind when they were going through the ship for the first time was a panning shot that did not stop. It allowed the audience to view the entire ship and understand the direction the film was heading.
The clip above allowed the audience to understand that the director was trying to show why the captain of the ship (Bill Murray) was not getting treated as well as others in his field of work. I thought it was interesting to see how Bill Murray's ship focused on relaxing and the same time focused on; creating a movie. One could see how the director tried to show how important the ship was to Bill Murray through the clip. The clip allowed the film to head in a direction that shows how Bill Murray changes his ideas throughout the movie.
Overall, I thought this movie was really impactful in how a narrative can be impacted by a simple couple of minutes of a film. It was shown through multiple shots of the film. But the most impactful clip was the one I was able to find online. To me, it allowed for a better understanding of how the movie was going to play out. I thought that Wes Anderson directing allowed people to understand the direction of the films he produces.
